This
plaque in Lanark at the bottom of the High St, marks the site of the house
that Wallace escaped through to elude English pursuers. Legend tells us
that his sweetheart Marion was dragged out and executed outside this property
by the Sheriff of Lanark in revenge for Wallace’s escape.
