A row of standing stones traditionally mark the spot where the Scottish army gathered before the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. They probably pre-date Wallace’s time, but would be a convenient landmark for the army to assemble after coming from Dundee. They are close to the Sheriffmuir Inn. A later, famous battle was fought hereabouts in 1715.
